Basal Energy expenditure is the amount of calories burned by the human body in the
basal state (without including exercise, stress, etc.). The formula is also referred to as
the Harris-Benedict equation.
To this basal expenditure, 30%, 50% or 100 percent is added for sedentary, moderate or strenous
activity, respectively.
